Andrew Harness, Composer/Musician
Andrew Harness is a composer and musician living and working in southeast Michigan. His work and collaborations stretch from early music styles to electro-acoustic genres and center on the idea that music should be both enjoyable and challenging. Andrew’s work includes high school vocal and band pieces, mini series theme music for Wayne State University Grad Department, film scoring for Practical Folks, short-piece dance competition film with David Gwynn, collaborations with trumpeter Andrew Smith, and various band projects. He was a finalist in the MIVOS string quartet competition and participated in the electro-acoustic composers series with Wayne State University, Western Michigan University, Central Michigan University, and Michigan State University. His songs have been placed in various short films and student projects. A self-taught musician, his formal study of theory and composition began at St. Lawrence University where he studied with Dr. In-Sil Yoo, Dr. Chris Watts, and Mr. Barry Torres. Andrew continued composition study with Dr. Matt Schoendorf and Dr. Jon Anderson at Wayne State. He is currently working on various commissions, an alternative funk-rock trio project, and a solo band project. When not making music Andrew enjoys soccer, cooking, and reading.
