Joey is a Junior BFA dance major at Wayne State University and serves as Co-Artistic Director and choreographer for the student-run dance company Dance Workshop. Since joining the department in the fall of 2018, Joey has performed in works by Twyla Tharp, Meg Paul, Bosmat Nossan (Batsheva Dance Ensemble), Mark Fucik (Pilobolus), BAIRA, Karen Prall, Brandon Koepsell, and more. He had the honor of attending the American College Dance Association Conference (ACDA) in 2018 to perform a work by Leah O’Donnell which was selected for the gala performance. He has also had the pleasure of performing in many festivals in and around Michigan such as Artlab J’s Detroit Dance Race (2016, 2017, 2018), Michigan Regional Alternative Dance Festival (2017), Kristi Faulkner’s Women’s Work (2019), and more. He has also been a company member with ConteXture Dance Detroit under Tracy Halloran since 2018. Joey continues to hone his teaching artistry and creative process at various institutions around Michigan. Joey has had the pleasure of working and participating in many summer dance intensives and festivals including Brighton Dance Festival (Intern 2017), Complexions Detroit Summer Intensive (Intern 2019), and was also chosen as one of four emerging choreographers for Eisenhower Dance Detroit’s NewDanceFest in 2018. Joseph has been trained in both the Stott Pilates Mat and Reformer courses and is working towards his certification in both. He also serves as Executive Assistant for Jodie Randolph Dance, where he is learning the developing skills in arts management and creative non-profit work.
